5 Night Halloween on The High Seas Cruise on the Disney Magic – Embarkation in NYC

Hi friends! Welcome to my trip recap for the 5 Night Halloween on The High Seas Cruise on the Disney Magic. This sailing departed on Monday September 30th 2019 out of New York City and stopped in Bar Harbor, Maine and Saint John, New Brunswick.

This was my first time embarking at the cruise terminal in New York City, so I want to share my experience with you.
My parents, sisters, husband, and I drove down to New York City from Massachusetts on Monday morning to get to Pier 88 for our boarding. My dad rented a van and all 6 of us piled in for the four hour drive to the city. It was a really fun mini road trip, especially with the trees in New York starting to turn lovely fall colors.

When we got to Manhattan it was time to return the rental car! We were able to drop it off just one block away from the cruise pier and then walk over to the terminal with our luggage. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this if you are within driving distance of New York because the rental car was so much cheaper than trying to park your own car in NYC for the week.

It was time to get in line for boarding! We dropped off our suitcases with a porter and proceeded to security.

The security line was so short! We were pumped to get on the ship quickly. Unfortunately, we were not prepared for how long the check-in line was going to be…

Check-in was nuts! Typically there are four lines for Disney Cruise Line check-in: one for First Time Cruisers, Silver & Gold Castaway Club and Disney Vacation Club members, Platinum Castaway Club members, and people who booked Concierge staterooms. Not only were the lines completely backed up, but there was no communication as to which line was which.
The one sign they had which said the line categories was not visible because of how long the lines were…

This led to mass confusion that could have been avoided if the port staff had communicated the line categories to people just arriving. Alas, that did not happen.

After about 30 minutes we finally received our Key to the World cards and were ready to board! Just FYI – you can totally skip the photo op they have when boarding. We usually do because we are so ready to get on the ship!

Minnie came to say hi while we were boarding.

I never get tired of the grand entrance through the ballroom! The Halloween decorations were AMAZING.

We went up to Cabanas for lunch and then went to go check out our staterooms.

More Halloween decor! We purchased an Onboard Gift from the DCL website to commemorate our Halloween on The High Seas cruise. It was really magical to step into our stateroom and find fun Halloween touches throughout.

We especially liked the Halloween blanket and pillow!

Headed up to the deck to watch sail away!

Starting to get in the spooky Halloween mood. Thankfully it wasn’t too chilly on deck!

Sailing away from Manhattan was really breathtaking. I could hardly wait to sail past the Statue of Liberty!

There she is!

My little sister has great skill at taking selfies. Look at my cute family!

When it started getting cold and it was already a few minutes past our 5:45 PM dinner time, we ran downstairs to Rapunzel’s Royal Table because it was…

Tangled Night!
Rapunzel is my favorite princess, so needless to say I was hyped to dine at Rapunzel’s Royal Table! We had a great seat and were looking forward to having a delicious meal.

I love the characters and singing along to all the songs. My sisters joined in too!

During the dinner show, we had some amazing character interactions. Flynn Rider came over and gave me his “best smolder”.

Justin complimenting Flynn on his smolder. So funny!

Then Vladimir came over and teased us about…bread? He was hilarious!

Before we knew it, it was time to eat! Here is what I ordered (everything was DELICIOUS!):
Ravioli “Tiroler” and Ahi Tuna Tartar
Tangled Pasta
Creme Brulee Cheesecake (my favorite!)

The Tangled Pasta was scrumptious and adorable!

At the end of our dinner, we made our way to the lobby to catch a Halloween show before Tangled The Musical.

There was a haunted storyteller and for the finale, the tree came to life!

We loved watching Tangled the Musical afterwards and went to bed so excited for our day at sea tomorrow!

That wraps up our day 1 adventures! Thanks for reading and make sure to check out our Day 2 Halloween At Sea and Mixology Class!
